First Few Days

On Friday I finally decided that I have got to lose this extra 50 pounds that I have been carrying around for about 6 years. I joined Weightwatchers for the 3rd time.

The first time worked like a charm. In about 3 months I lost 30 pounds with absolutely no exercise. I went to weekly meetings and had a partner in my office manager. The pounds just melted off. If I ever got off track she would whip me back into shape.

Then I met Mr. Right and fell off of the wagon. When I got him, he had ribs showing through his back. Being the good Italian American that I am, I cooked, and cooked and cooked and cooked. He gained about 10 - 15 pounds and I gained between 20 - 30 over about a year and a half.

I am one of those people who can't sleep knowing there are fantastic leftovers in the fridge. Literally, the thought of the leftover gnocci with pancetta cream sauce will propel me out of the deepest of comas. I dream about french onion dip. Food is an absolute obsession. Add that to the fact that you do actually need some of it to live on and I have the perfect excuse for pigging out.

Eventually, we broke up and I realized that I had completely let myself go. I didn't really care enough to notice.

The second time I joined weightwatchers I was working all of the time. Really, everything fun that I did during that time was squeezing out much needed sleep. I did the online version. I did not go to meetings. I also joined with my secretary. She lost over 30 pounds quickly. I lost about 15 but then lost motivation and that trial ended in failure.

Now I am even 20 pounds heavier than the first time I joined weightwatchers. I am determined to lose 50 pounds in 6 months. Since I let the first success get away from me and the second try never really got off the ground I have decided that blogging may help me stay true to my convictions.

I started on Friday and have eaten more fruits and vegetables than I ever thought possible. I went to a beer festival and did not partake. I did, however, drink half a box of wine with my friend, but that is another story altogether.
